Friends, I can understand that “Simple Past Tense” was not that “simple” :) :)
So to give you some relief here comes “Past Continuous Tense”. It follows good old structure like “future continuous”.

Here verb is formed according to subjective/doer of the action like future Continuous Tense

The sentence structure in Past Continuous Tense is :-

Pronoun
Verb+त (t)
Form of असणे(“asaNe”) in Simple Past  tense
मी ( mI )
चाल(chAl) + त (t)
होतो ( hoto )

Example 1) For I(male) Form of असणे(asaNe) in Simple Past Is होतो (hoto)
The full sentence
I was walking --> मी ( mI ) चाल(chAl) + (t)  होतो (hoto)
--> मी चाल होतो (mI chAlat hoto)

Example 2) For I(Female) Form of असणे(asaNe) in Simple Past Is होते (hote)
The full sentence
I was walking  --> मी ( mI ) चाल(chAl) + (t)  होते (hote)
--> मी चाल होते (mI chAlat hote)

Example 3) For They (Plural of She) Form of असणे(asaNe) in Simple Past Is होत्या (hotyA
)
The full sentence
They were watching  -->  त्या (tyA)    बघ(bagh) + (t)    होत्या (hotyA
-->  त्या  बघत होत्या (tyA baghat hotyA

  6. Hi Kaushik. Another question. What about the past continuous tense with object (noun)? Are there examples? I guess we can say "mi chitra rangavalet hote"? BTW, I emailed you about my experience and appreciation. Thanks again. Sundar

    1. object is used as it is. No change.
      "mi rangavat hoto" is basic sentence, you can use noun of any gender-plurality.

      "mi chitr/chitre/kagad/batali/batalya rangavat hoto"

      Thanks for mail. I will check and reply.
